September 18: Nepal Communitere, a non-profit organisation, is all set to organise Kathmandu Mini Maker Faire (KMMF) in partnership with Rural Development Initiative (RDI) and Global Innovation Gathering (GIG) on September 22 and 23 in Kathmandu.
Issuing a press statement, the organisation said that the two-day event will bring together makers and innovators from Nepal and abroad, and will highlight innovation in Nepal.
The theme for the second edition of KMMF 2018 is “Design Future” which primarily focuses on health, education and environment but also welcomes all makers in different sectors.
“The Kathmandu Mini Maker Faire will convene entrepreneurs, makers, business people, as well as members of international and national non-governmental organizations and government agencies,” the statement read, adding that the event will celebrate the Maker Movement – a movement that brings together tech innovators, tinkerers, and artisans – and showcase an array of new technologies and innovative projects that promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) learning.
Events and exhibits will include exhibitors, speakers, panel discussions, workshops on small, low-cost computers such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino, a virtual reality booth, flying drones, 3D printing workshops, and traditional crafting.
According to the statement, KMMF will provide incubation grants of up to Rs 200,000 for each team of makers showing innovative approaches to health, education and environment challenges.
