Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed his sorrow over the demise of party's senior leader Tara Koirala.
In a message of condolence today, the NC president said that he was deeply saddened by the news of the death of Koirala. The Lamjung-based leader died today in course of treatment at the Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara. He was 75.
Koirala was the founding president of the NC district working committee, Lamjung after 2017 BS and other several district level party organisations including the Nepal Students Union, Lamjung.
He was injured in a firing by the then regime made targeting BP Koirala in 2036 BS as the latter was en route to Syangja to address the party programme. He had received bullet injury to his one leg and undergone the amputation.
Leader Koirala was also the party's general convention representative and had spent around two years in prison for his struggle for the restoration of democracy at home. In the press statement, the party president said that the party would always remember and value the contribution of the late Koirala to the different democratic movements.
"The party has lost a competitive leader and his demise is an incomparable loss to the party," President Deuba said, praying for eternal peace to the departed souls and extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.(RSS)
