China urged for additional investment in Nepal's hydro energy

 

Kathmandu, Jun 25 

Chinese government has been urged for additional investment in Nepal's energy and hydro electricity. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Barshaman Pun, urged Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi, during a meeting with him today.

Reminding that government was making efforts for the development and expansion of energy sector, the Minister requested the Chinese Ambassador to urge the Chinese investors to pay heed to Nepal. "There is new potential in hydropower in Nepal. We're striving for investment and market expansion. Discussion is underway even with the India and Bangladesh on it. For this, positive cooperation from China is sought," he stressed.

In response, Chinese Ambassador Yanqi however briefed the Minister about the problems faced by Chinese companies and that she was doing thorough study and investigation about it.

The Minister also said Nepal side would also discuss and study on the delayed construction of projects handled by Chinese companies in Nepal. Measures to tackle the problems would be taken in case of the problems, he added.RSS
