NRB urges customers to conduct transactions without fear

Kathmandu, September 1

On the heels of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) robbery involving over Rs 30 million by a gang of Chinese nationals, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has urged bank customers to conduct transactions without fear saying bank accounts of general people are safe.

It also urged banks and financial institutions to conduct transactions rest assured and provide service to customers regularly. The bank said investigations were underway following the robbery pledging to probe the matter and bring out facts. "Bank accounts of general people are safe.

There is no need to worry. Investigations are ongoing involving experts on related field by forming a probe committee," said NRB's spokesperson Laxmi Prapanna Niraula. He also urged banks and financial institutions to adopt extra caution. A gang of Chinese nationals withdrew over IRs 10 million and Rs 16.6 million from various banks' ATM booths based in the Kathmandu Valley.

The funds were withdrawn from ATM booths of Prabhu Bank, NIC Asia, Janata, Global IME and Sunrise by using fake VISA cards of Nabil Bank, Nepal SBI Bank and Nepal Investment Bank. The police have arrested the robbers from Durbar Marga and Hattisar in the valley and made public.
